New Multi-level Deck in Farragut

The homeowners in West Knoxville wanted to spend more time outside and enjoy their wonderful East Tennessee view, but the old deck was small and past its prime. They wanted us to remove their unsafe structure and start fresh. The plan called for a larger screened porch tied into the house plus a new composite lower deck for open-air use. We designed a new upper level that is about 60 square feet larger than the older one, making the space easier to furnish and entertain.

We framed a gable roof that connects to the home, then finished it off with Owens Corning shingles in Black Sable so the porch matches the rest of the house. And just like the house, it has the 50yr TruProtection Warranty. Inside, a tongue and groove pine ceiling adds warmth and a clean look. We added outlets inside the porch to power anything the owners chose to do in the future… a TV, Christmas lights, ect. The added wiring also runs to a Minka Aire smart fan that moves air quietly in summer and adds a visual element to the space. New brown gutters manage water and blend with the stained posts and beams.

For mosquito control while maintaining clear views, we used the ScreenEze system. Their unique sliding screen barn doors open wide to the lower deck and keep traffic moving during family gatherings. Railings add contrast with stained wood, black powder-coated balusters, and straight lines that keep sightlines open.

The uncovered lower deck is built with Deckorators composite planks in Saltwater with Dark Slate trim. The color pairing gives a crisp contrast to the warm tone of the porch framing, and the material stands up to rain and sun with little upkeep. Wide composite steps connect the deck to the yard for easy access.

From a tired platform to a safe, year-round outdoor room plus a low-upkeep deck, this project now fits daily life and makes the most of the backyard view. It is ready for morning coffee, fall football, and quiet evenings in Knoxville.
